Shipping date: August 15

On July 27, I was informed that the binder still needs some more time to finish the books. However, an actual shipping date could now be established. The books will be shipped (to all who ordered) on August 15. This is later than I anticipated and communicated earlier.

All this delay has been nerve-racking to me, as I know it must have been for some of those who ordered early. The Oera Linda Foundation is going through a process of professionalisation and we are learning. If you ordered the book, we apologize for the extra delay.

If you would like to withdraw your order and get a full refund, please send a short message and the whole amount of what you paid will be immediately refunded. Please, do not claim a refund at your (credit card or other) payment system.

Why a new Dutch translation?

There are four Dutch translations known to me, or, when second (somewhat revised) editions are included: six.

These are: Ottema 1872 and 1876, Overwijn 1941 and 1951, Jensma 2006 and De Heer 2008.

Of these translators, Jensma stands out as being the only one who interpreted the texts as having been created in the 19th century and including hidden puns.

All of them seem to have tried to stay as close to the original as possible, which sometimes led to incorrect expressions or sentences that are not quite correct in modern Dutch (similar to my use of the English language in blog posts).

Although it may sometimes be interesting to use archaisms (see bottom for examples), I will try to make my new translation a better read, by daring to deviating more from the original, without distorting the content.

For the Dutch readers, here are some examples, without footnotes (more may be added later):

Wodin ≠ Odin

'acorn dream' by Alex Grey 2021
Many assume that Wodin and Odin are simply different spellings of the same.

Recently (in the last few hundred years) that may indeed have become the dominant misunderstanding.

I do not think it is right though, and will explain with the help of Oera Linda.

OD, WOD and IN are all Fryas words, so the names may be split as WOD.IN and OD.IN.

'Od' is used only once in the texts,* as being 'of Wralda'. It was the element that made the three daughters of Earth (Lyda, Finda and Frya) become pregnant of their children.

*German spelling would be 'Ott'; Dutch: 'oed'.

fragment [006/28-32] in the manuscript, showing that the Ottema/Sandbach transliteration and translation (connecting WR ALDA.S to DRÁMA in stead of to OD) were wrong; see blog post "Two worst mistakes in first OLB publication"

fragment [006/28-32] from Codex Oera Linda 2022

Likewise, we may assume that the same life-force had earlier impregnated Earth, so that she would bring forth all living creatures.

same [103/11-17]

Wralda in Oera Linda is GOD (good, whole, perfect), the beginning and the end, the all-feeder (or -'father'), etc. Besides Wralda's od (OD), there is mention of Wralda's spirit or ghost (GÁST). While the first is used in the context of fertility (creation of new life), the latter refers to (infinite) consciousness.

The relevant fragment (ch. 8b) about the army leader named Wodin who was deified by the Magyar people is copied below.

'Wod' can have several meanings in the texts: wood, forest and rage/fury. Below is an updated version of a 2011 blog post fragment.

Ambiguous WOD: wood/timber, wood/forest and rage/fury

In fragments 1 and 4, WOD refers to wood/forest (Dutch: woud, German: Wald).
In fragments 6, 9, 10, 11 and 12, it means wood/timber (Dutch: hout, German: Holtz).
In fragments 2, 3, 5, 7 and 8, (derivatives of) the word WODIN or WODAN (that are most probably derived from WOD) refers to anger, rage or fury (Dutch: woede, German: Wut)

From Codex Oera Linda (2022), translation only (MS pages/lines: [053/12 - 056/20]):

8b. Wodin and the Magus

From this expedition the history of Wodin was born, just as it was inscribed at the burgs and written here.

At the Aldergamouth, a former sea king rested. Sterik was his name and the fame of his deeds was great. This old sea dog had three young kinsmen: Wodin, the eldest, lived at Lumkamakia near the Eamouth in East Fleeland with his parents. He had once been army leader; Tunis and Inka were sea warriors and at the time they were staying in the home of their father’s brother at the Aldergamouth.

When the young warriors had assembled, they chose Wodin as their army leader or king. The sea warriors chose Tunis as their sea king and Inka as their deputy-by-night. The navy then sailed to the Denmarks, where they took on board Wodin and his brave army. The wind was fair [054] and so they shortly arrived in Skeanland. When the brothers of the north had joined him, Wodin divided his powerful army into three. ‘Frya!’ was their war cry, and he thus drove back the Finns and Magyars as if they were children.

When the magus heard how his men were all being slain, he sent messengers with scepter and crown. They said to Wodin: ‘O you, greatest of all kings! We are guilty, but all that we have done was done from necessity. You think that we took on your brothers willingly, but we were whipped forth by our enemies, who are still at our heels. We often asked your burg maiden for help, but she ignored us. The magus says that if we kill half our numbers in fighting with each other, the wild herdsmen will come and kill us off completely. The magus possesses great riches, but he has seen that Frya is more powerful than all our spirits combined. He will lay down his head in her lap. You are the most heroic king on earth, your folk are of iron. Become our king, and we shall willingly be your slaves. What honor it would be for you if you could drive back the savages! Our trumpets would resound with it and our praises would precede you everywhere.’ Wodin was strong, fierce and heroic, but he was not [055] clear-sighted. Therefore, he was caught in their trap and crowned by the magus.

Quite a lot of steersmen and land warriors who disapproved of this turn left quietly, taking Kate with them. But Kate, who did not wish to appear before either the mother or the general assembly, jumped overboard. Then a storm arose and lashed the ships down upon the banks of the Denmarks, not sparing a single man. Later, this strait was named Kate’s Gate.

After Wodin was crowned, he attacked the savages. They were all horsemen and charged down on Wodin’s troops like a hailstorm, but like a whirlwind they turned back and did not dare to appear again. When Wodin returned, the magus gave him his daughter as a wife. He then was incensed with herbs. But among them were magic herbs, and gradually Wodin became so audacious, that he dared to disavow and ridicule Frya and Wralda’s spirit, while he bent his free neck before images of false gods. His reign lasted seven years, and then he disappeared. The magus said that he had been accepted among their gods, and that he ruled them from there, but our folk laughed at his words.

When Wodin had been gone for some time, disputes arose. We wished to choose another king, but the magus would not allow it. [056] He claimed that it was his right, given him by his gods. Besides this dispute, there was yet another one among his own people, the Magyars and Finns, who would honor neither Frya nor Wodin. But the magus did as it pleased him, because his daughter had born a son by Wodin, and the magus now declared this son to be of high descent. While all were nagging and quarreling, he crowned the boy as king, and installed himself as his guardian, representative and counselor. Those who valued feasting above justice let him win them over, but the good men took their departure. Many Magyars fled back with their troops and the steersmen took ship, accompanied by an army of daring Finns as rowers.

Lowered shipping costs for orders of >2 books

Important update for those who have ordered more than 2 books, or would have wanted to if shipping had been less expensive:

Now that the exact weight of the book is known, it was possible to lower the shipping costs for:

  • 3, 6 or 12 books to any destination (in NL it's only lower for 6 books)
  • 14 books to all destinations in Europe (incl. NL)

All that was paid too much for shipping will be refunded to whomsoever this applies. If you wish to add to your order, because of the lowered shipping costs, please let me know!

New rates, see updates in previous post.

Book release date and mail costs update

UPDATE July 7: now that the exact weight is known, shipping classes could be adjusted (see yellow markings below). As a result, ordering more books at once has become more affordable. If you would like to add to your order, because of the lower shipping costs, please let me know!

==========================original post with changes marked in yellow=================

As I had to wait for a dummy (empty pages and cover only) of the book, in order to establish mail costs, there was time to further improve content and design of the book. Yesterday the final file was mailed to the printer.

Earlier it was suggested to me that a significantly cheaper (and possibly faster) option for international mail was possible, but at close examination, I found there were too many risks involved. This option does not include the possibility of track and trace — which I prefer in the interest of both the recipient and the sender — and has a higher risk of the parcel being returned or getting lost. Therefore, I will keep the method used with the earlier editions, for now.

!

I still hope that (mailing) companies, publishing houses or sponsors, in particular in the US, Canada and Australia will be willing to participate in the project, which would make distribution in these countries much faster and cheaper. Also, as I would much rather focus more on research and translation, than on managing the Foundation, I hope to get practical support from experienced and motivated new (advisory?) board members.

release date [updated 30 July]

[On July 27, I was informed that the binder needs more time than was expected. However, an actual shipping date could now be set. The books will be shipped (to all who ordered) on August 15. All this delay has been nerve-racking to me, as I know it was for some of those who ordered early. I will learn my lessons from it.]

Earlier I thought that the books could be printed and shipped in June. This was much too optimistic. (Please note that this project is not my job; this is voluntary work and I am a family father with many other things on my plate.) The good news, however, is that I had more time to improve both content and design: it will be worth the extra wait. Also, because I managed to make a good production deal, I could lower the book price to €48.

if you would like to withdraw your order and get a full refund

If you have ordered and paid, but do not accept this delay, simply send me a message so I can refund the whole amount of what you paid. website/-shop updates, call for board members and other notes

While waiting for a test print of the book, this and next week I will be further preparing and improving the web shop.

Besides the e-book and the full size (was: 3rd English) edition, there will be options to donate to financially support the Oera Linda Foundation, either by adding a donation to your order, or to just make a donation (once or recurring). This is currently being set up.

Mail or shipping costs are still being calculated by our distributor, especially for orders of more than one book abroad. Therefore, I have not contacted those who have pre-ordered yet. I will do that as soon as these costs have been established and implemented in the store. Again I would like to point out that anyone who has ordered and paid earlier will be offered a partial refund, if applicable. These early payments have been very helpful for the foundation to be able to pay for the initial printing costs.

Once the books are being printed and shipping starts, I will only have to weekly pass on order information to our distributor (and do financial administration), so I will have more time to start working on the long awaited new Dutch translation. Distribution (packing and posting) the previous two editions was much work for me. Surely interesting and instructive, but not something i want to keep doing.

Besides work on the Dutch edition, I intend to further professionalize the foundation and its website.

The Oera Linda Foundation is looking for new board members, preferably (but not necessarily) from the Netherlands, Flanders or northwestern Germany (so we can more easily meet in real life). Please contact me if you are interested and tell me about your experience and motivation.

UPDATE June 18

Next Monday (June 20) a test print is expected as well as a specification of the final variable shipping cost (in particular for larger quantities and to more unusual destinations). This is somewhat later than expected and communicated earlier. The web shop is already operational, taking orders for the full size edition, but from next week on when there is more clarity, all other unpaid pre-orders can be formalized.

Preparations for a German edition have started.

New book printing company chosen and distribution outsourced

Although I was satisfied with how the first two editions were printed, I have decided (last week) to go elsewhere for the third edition. It will be printed (again in Friesland) by a company that will also take care of all distribution, which is a great advantage. They also print and mail the quarterly Solari Report 'wrap ups' by Catherine Austin Fitts and her team.

Lower shipping costs and book price

This means that international shipping cost will be considerably lower than before (and currently communicated in web shop). Exact mail costs will be presented soon and changed in the web shop. Also, book price will be lowered to €48 (now €54). Anyone who already paid before the lowering will be offered a partial refund.

Book size and design, parcels

In order to have the manuscript pages printed in their actual size, the book will be larger than the first two editions: 220 x 290 mm (8.7 x 11.4 inches). It will have a hard cover, linen spine and reading ribbons. The color section will be 192 pages. The text formatting will be in two columns and this section will be 160 pages, making a total of 352 pages. The book will be ca. 27 mm (1.05 inches) thick, so a 1-book parcel can be delivered in a regular letterbox (32 mm/ 1.26 inches). All books will be sealed in plastic before being packed into a high quality cardboard box.

Book file editing

Today and tomorrow, I will continue work on the new book design.

Personal note

Working at home, often disturbed by my wife and our four children (ages 2, 4, 5, 7 and expecting a fifth next month), it has been hard to focus on the project at times. I also had other things to do (like home renovation) and needed a longer break from the project than I had earlier expected. Answering e-mails has often consumed too much of my time, so again I apologize for not always replying.

Third edition specifics

[update May 25 — Production and distribution will be taken care of by the same company, shipping cost will be less expensive than is currently displayed in the web shop (all who paid already will be offered a partial refund); book size and weight will be decided within the next few office days, after which the printing will start. — Thank you for your patience and understanding!]

Release of the third edition (not 'if', but 'how') is under reconsideration: mostly size, weight. Also, there may be both a hardcover deluxe and a paperback version. All who have pre-ordered will be informed by mail soon. If you have already paid, you will get the option to cancel and get a full refund.

Notes:

Especially since the December interview was published, I received many orders and messages, some of the latter I still have not answered (for which I apologize). Main focus was on processing the orders and shipping the parcels. When that was all done I needed a break from the project.

Thank you all for the kind expressions of appreciation and moral support!

Due to a mistake in the web shop, it was not possible to donate to the project (donations failed and were not reported to me, but the information was saved). We only discovered this recently. I will contact the would-have-been supporters soon.

Manuscript pages in 2022 edition

How the manuscript pages were printed in the first (deluxe, 2021) edition and how they are intended to appear in the new (supreme, 2022) edition:

Also, the pages will be printed in higher resolution:

News and call for help

old vs. new manuscript scan resolution

Today the Oera Linda Foundation received from Tresoar high resolution scans of all manuscript pages*, as well as a portrait of Cornelis Over the Linden which has not been published before, as far as I know. Both will be used for future editions of Codex Oera Linda.

(*I had three hi-res page-scans only, which were used for the front and back end-papers as well as the book cover of the 2nd edition.)

Our plan is to create the third edition in hardcover deluxe format again; this time, however, with all manuscript pages printed page-filling in their actual size. Thus, the book will be somewhat larger than the first (deluxe) edition. Another difference relative to the first will be that the five appendices of the second edition will be included (possibly more), as well as Over de Linden's 'new' portrait.

To all who have pre-ordered or consider to: book and shipping cost are still unknown. It will obviously be possible to change or cancel your order. The pre-order possibility is helpful for us to get an idea of the interest in the book as well as where it can best be printed. Like with the earlier editions, most demand seems to be in the USA.

Since shipping cost from here to overseas are high, shipping times are often long and tracking service has proven to be unreliable, I would prefer to distribute main part of the next edition(s) from within the USA, perhaps even have them printed there. Who of you friends of this project can advise or provide practical assistance in these matters?

Also, who of the friends of this project would be interested in helping to proof-read and improve (one or more of) the following parts (all mostly as in 2nd and E-book edition):

  • Publisher's Notes
  • Appendices: I), II), IV) and V)
  • Footnotes and short introduction to Index of Names

If anyone has suggestions to improve other aspects of the book; translation, transliteration, general layout etc. — these are welcome too.

To contact me, please use mail address or contact form on oeralinda.nl (or this weblog's form).

Thank you!

UPDATE - April 9th:

The texts are currently being improved (first proofreading). If someone is really good at it and would offer to do a second reading, he or she would receive the edited versions for review.

Solari Report Interview

More notes, references and relevant links will be added below.

Solari book review of Codex Oera Linda by Catherine Austin Fitts (Solari Report).

NEW DELUXE EDITION — There will most likely be a third edition, deluxe hardcover with ribbons, linen back and appendices incl. color images of all manuscript pages (perhaps page filling, 1 page each), in the spring of 2022.

SHIPPING TIME — In the interview, when I say that shipping takes two weeks or more, I ment shipping to USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand (and other destinations outside Europe). Within Europe it is much shorter (non-EU often somewhat longer than a week).

“None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.” was a quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe; “It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” was from Krishnamurti.

HOF: hoof or palace garden?

Some of the choices I made translating Oera Linda are very different from the ones made by earlier translators. Here is one example, with some explanation.

[143/28] chapter 16a. Canals and Dykes (longer fragment below)

THÉR THJU DÁNTE HETH FON EN HOF

Ottema (1872, 1876, p. 195): die de gedaante heeft van een hoef (i.e. hoof)

Sandbach (1876, p. 195): which has the form of a hoof

Wirth (1933): welche die Gestalt eines Hufes hat (i.e. hoof)

Overwijn (1941, p. 147): as Ottema

Jensma (2006): as Ottema*

Ott (2022): which is like unto a palace garden

How should we interpret a domain or piece of land with the shape or form of a hoof? If the imprint of a horse's hoof was ment, it could make sense; the triangular shape may represent a building, while the outer shape may be the surrounding domain, fenced by dike, wall or canal. However, nowhere else in Oera Linda is HOF/ HOV- used for hoof. It is used in two distinct contexts: 1) related to the residence of a monarch (court), an ornamental garden or perhaps a farm; 2) from verb (BI-)HOVA (Dutch hoeven - need, have to, behove), mostly noun BIHOF - needs, necessities. All fragments are listed below.

Still, HOF may very well (also, or in the first place) have been the original word for hoof, considering these cognates:

hoof - English ("A hoof [...] is the tip of a toe of an ungulate mammal [...]" - wiki)
hoef - Dutch, Afrikaans
Huf - German
hov - Danish, Swedish, Norse
hófur - Icelandic

1. related to palace, court

DÁNTE ~ shape, appearance, likeness, image

Hebe with Jupiter in the shape of
an eagle, by G.A. Diez (c.1820)

DÁNTE: shape, appearance, likeness, image
gedaante - Dutch
getání - Old High German
getaene - Middle High German
dénthe - Old Frisian

Etymologists suggest this word was derived from the verb 'do'. This could be true, but in OL the present root of this verb is DVA, past DÉ-, while varieties with DÁ- do not occur.
