Frethogunsta came to Staveren one year later. Among her followers was a magus, for the Jutters had long been corrupted. If 2) means 'foreign people' (in a negative sense: unwelcome here), 3) could originally mean 'of the foreign people' in short 'foreign' or 'strange', but in a negative sense: 'alien'.
I think 'Tschuden' can be explained from the Fryas word. But I don't see a clear link between 1) and 2)/3) yet.

ReplyDeleteFor the interpretation of the 3rd meaning (wicked) I would use the word 'zot' in every instance.

I wonder in what way also the french word "chute" (fall) is related. The fallen ones are idd the wicked ones, living in the dark about what is right and what is wrong. They went astray from the right path, they divorced. De scheiding van de rest (van de mensheid) is volgens mij de chute (schei-uit).
For second, Diets part (TJVTH, people), I tend to think it is very close in pronounciation, hence also in written language. But different, not related in meaning with "zot" (chute). More coming from TIE-UIT (uitdijen, to spread in a direction), like "tuatha dana": those that spread in the dana region? Like folk is also related with 'volg'.
The first meaning of explaining (BI-THJUD, be-duiden) could be related with the second. BE-TIE-UIT is than the act of ex-plaining. You unfold and lay-uit (ex-plicare, uit-leg) and spread what has to be understood.
