Various News

book release date

Yesterday I was informed that the expected delivery date of the new books has been moved by the binder to week 43 (24-29 October). All books that have been ordered by then, will ship as soon as they arrive at the distributor's.

subtitled Dutch interview fragments

Some of the best parts of the Dutch interview from early September have now been uploaded to YouTube with English, German and Dutch subtitles (total length 43 minutes). They can be viewed separately or in a playlist here. Video titles and descriptions still need to be improved.

Oera Linda Foundation

The foundation's team, consisting entirely of volunteers, has been expanded with a treasurer and a secretary. So now, in addition to myself as the initiator, the project is supported by:

  • Bruce: lead editor of the new English OL translation and various additional texts.
  • Henk: design of wesite/webshop oeralinda.org and preparation of wiki-like site, yet to be launched.
  • Michiel: treasurer

Help would still be welcome with:

  1. improvement of web-presence (YouTube and other channels: video titles, descriptions; other social media)
  2. organisation of book production and distribution: contacts with printer and postal companies; finding publishing house(s) and/or distributor(s) abroad?
  3. preparation and coordination of research (validating authenticity) and sponsored projects
  4. Editor/translator German.

personal

I have not been able to reply to all emails, and sometimes even to keep in touch with friends. I do apologize. I have spent more time behind the computer screen than was good for me and crave doing more physical work (mostly improvement of house and garden) again. Which I intend to do in the coming months.

Frijsia Fest near Staveren ~ new Dutch translation fragments

(not an actual compound word in Oera Linda)
On 24 September, the Victory of Staveren was celebrated (1345 CE: defeat of the count of Holland's army). The festival was named Frijsia, a wordplay of 'Frisia' (Friesland, Fryasland) and the Frisian word for 'freedom': frijheid (in the Fryas language: FRYDOM). In Fryas, FRY.SIA actually means 'free-see', which can be understood as free-think.

At this occasion, a short introduction about Oera Linda was given by host Rypke Zeilmaker and yours truly. Thereafter, I recited two fragments of which I had made provisional new Dutch translations for the occasion. One scene was re-enacted while I read it. There was a 2 meters wide banner with two OL pages on it from which I read out loud parts in the original language.

In anticipation of a video report that is still expected, here are some images of the event, mostly from Rypke's blog Interessante Tijden (interesting times). Below that, the new Dutch-language fragments.

(not my foot, not made at the festival and not from Rypkes blog)

14a - Fryasland Overspoeld [115/14] - [117/20]
Rivieren werden over velden gespreid. Zee kookte.
Just as the wild horse shakes its mane after throwing its rider onto the grass, Earth shook her woods and mountains. Rivers were spread over the fields, the seas boiled, mountains spewed up to the clouds and, what they had disgorged, the clouds hurled back down upon Earth. At the beginning of the Harvest month, Earth tilted northward and sank, lower and lower. In the Wolves’ month, the low marks of Fryasland were covered by the sea. The woods where the images had been were heaved up and ravaged by storm.
Waar Liudgarda geweest was, was zee.
In the following year, in the Hard month, frost came and buried old Fryasland under a sheet of ice. In the Sol month, a storm wind came from the north, pushing forth mountains of ice and stones. When spring came, Earth righted herself again. The ice melted away, ebb came, and the woods with the images drifted out to sea. In the Winne month, or Love month, all those who dared returned home. I came with a maiden to the burg Liudgarda. How sad it looked! The forests of the Linde regions were mostly gone. Where Liudgarda had been was a sea — its waves lashed the ring dyke. Ice had destroyed the tower and the buildings lay in jumbled heaps.
In West-Vlieland vijftig.
On the slope of the dyke, I found a stone on which our scribe had carved his name. That to me was a sign. The other burgs fared the same as ours; in the highlands they were crushed by earth, in the lowlands by water. Only Fryasburg at Texland was found intact, but all the land that had lain northwards was under water and still has not been reclaimed. Reportedly, the shores of the Flee Lake now had thirty salt marshes — formed where the woods had been swept away with root and soil. West Fleeland had fifty. The canal that had run across the land from the Alderga had been blocked by sand and was lost.
The steersmen and other sailors who were home had saved themselves together with their close relatives and other kin upon their ships. But the black folk of Lydasburg and Alkmarum had done the same, and as they drifted southwards, they rescued many girls. And, since no one came for them later, they kept them as their wives. The people that came back all made their homes within the ring dykes of the burgs, as outside it was all mud and swampland. The unstable buildings were repaired. Cows and sheep were purchased from the upper lands and the large buildings that had formerly housed the maidens were now used to make cloth and felt for the sake of survival. All this happened 1888 years after Atland sank.
14c - Een Vloot Legt Aan [119/02] - [120/10]
Two years after Gosa had become mother, a fleet entered into the Flee Lake. The people on board cheered “huzzah!” and sailed to Staveren, where they cheered yet again. The flags were hoisted, and at night they shot burning arrows into the air. At dawn some of them rowed into the harbor with a longboat. Again they cheered, “huzzah!” When they landed, a young man leapt ashore. He held a shield on which lay bread and salt.
Ikzelf ging mee.
Then came an alderman and he said: “We have come from the Far Greeklands, to preserve our morals. We hope you will be so generous as to give us enough land that we may live thereon.” He told their story, which I will later relate in more detail. The aldermen did not know what to do and sent messengers throughout the land, even to me. I replied: “Now that we have a mother, we ought to ask her advice.” I went with them myself.
Wij deden zoals zij gezegd had. Dat was geheel naar hun wens.
The mother, who already knew of it all, said: “Let them come, so they can help save our land. But do not let them all stay in the same place, so that they will not overpower us.” We did as she said and they fully agreed.
Friso remained with his people in Staveren, which they made into a seaport again, as well as they could. Wichhirte went east with his people, to the Ems Mouth. Some of the Ionians who believed themselves to have sprung from the folk from the Alderga, went there. A few who deemed that their ancestors had come from the Seven Islands went there and settled within the ring dyke of the burg Walhallagara.
2b - Onze Oudste Geschiedenis [006/12] - [006/32]
2b. Our Primal History
Dit is onze oudste geschiedenis.
This is our primal history:
Wralda, who alone is whole and eternal, created the potential. Then came time, and time wrought all things; even the very Earth herself. Earth bore all grasses, herbs, and trees; all cherished creatures and all dreaded creatures. All that is good and dear, she brought forth by day, and all that is evil and fearsome brought she forth by night.
After the twelfth Yulefeast, she bore three girls: Lyda was of glowing hot, Finda of hot and Frya of warm substance.
As they lay naked, Wralda fed them with his breath so that mankind would be bound to him. Soon after they matured, they became fruitful and took pleasure in their dreams.
They received Wralda’s od into them, and so each bore twelve sons and twelve daughters; twins each Yuletide. Of these, all mankind has come.
2e - Frya was Wit [009/18] - [010/08]
2e. Frya was White
Frya was white, like snow in the blush of dawn, and the blue of her eyes surpassed that of the rainbow.
Schone Frya.
Beautiful Frya! Like rays of the sun at noon shone her hair, fine as spiders’ webs.
Kundige Frya.
Adept Frya! If she parted her lips, the birds fell silent and the leaves became still.
Geweldige Frya.
Formidable Frya! Under the force of her gaze, the lion would lie down at her feet and the viper hold back its venom.
Reine Frya.
Immaculate Frya! Her food was honey and her drink was the dew, gathered from the bosom of flowers.
Verlichte Frya.
Bright Frya! The first thing she taught her children was self-control, the second was love of virtue. And when they grew up, she gave them to understand the value of freedom,
for she said: “Without freedom, all other virtues will only help make you into slaves, bringing eternal shame upon your descent.”

"revised edition" of Codex Oera Linda

The new 'revised edition' of Codex Oera Linda is intended to be ready for shipment in the last week of October.

As the subtitle suggests, the main difference with the last ('full size') edition will be that much of the English is improved, with the help of professional translator Bruce Stafford. The book will also have a more durable cover and will otherwise be the same as the previous edition (full size and with HQ color prints of all manuscript pages).

The ISBN will be: 978-90-831650-28.

All who have backordered the 'full size edition' (after it was sold out), will receive this 'revised edition'.

We still invite distributors or publishing companies who are interested — ideally US based (for that is where most book go, thus far) — to contact us.

Project Oera Linda — tasks and teams

"Ik had alle vertrouwen in Freya"
(2004) pp. 97, 307 Na Valentijn.
After the Dutch Valentine special about Oera Linda, it has become clear that many more people believe in the project and are willing to support it.

It would no longer be efficient if I remain at the center of this. Therefore, it makes sense to create a structure in which dedicated teams can self-organize.

Current high priority tasks / active teams:

Preparation of 4th 'revised edition' Codex Oera Linda (500 copies), with many improvements specifically of the English.
  • Bruce (editing English), Jan (general editing, design, instructing book printer)
Improvement website/-shop OL Foundation, development of OL 'wiki'
  • Henk, Jan
Solving problems in shipping and delivery of parcels: Re-sending if needed
  • Jan (for next edition I will need help, or a proper publishing house taking over)

Several more projects are being initiated, yet to be announced:

related to media, research & validation, sponsors

First next public performance will be on 24 September at the 677th Frisian Victory of Stavoren celebration, with a 2 meters wide banner of selected manuscript pages, readings in Fryas language and some re-enactment.

Dutch language interview at "V for Valentine"

A two-hours long chat about Oera Linda with Boris van de Ven from V for Valentine, recorded August 31 in a studio near Amsterdam, premiered on Sunday September 4:

Some of the best parts may perhaps be subtitled later.

During the first 5 minutes I was not in good shape. After that, host Boris put me on the right track so we could have a great conversation.

Lessons learned: stay with microphone, answer more concisely, prepare good introduction, don't talk to host about topic beforehand. It's a complex topic and I've lived as a hermit/monk for years, so have to get used again to this kind of performances.
